Whole Wheat Applesauce Bars

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • frosting
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1-1/2 tsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts

Directions:

  1. In small bowl combine all dry ingredients, except sugars, mixing well
  2. In large bowl, combine sugar, brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter and molasses
  3. Beat with an electric mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy
  4. Add egg, beat well
  5. Beat in applesauce and sour cream
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients, at low speed, combining well
  7. Stir in the walnuts
  8. Spread into a greased 9 X 13 inch pan
  9. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes
  10. Cool one hour or until completely cooled
  11. FROSTING
  12. In small bowl, combine all ingredients except the walnuts
  13. Beat until smooth and creamy
  14. Spread the frosting over the cooled bars
  15. Sprinkle with walnuts
  16. Stor in refrigerator
