Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups cut up dates
  • 1/4 cup soft butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. Stir in nuts.
  3. Sprinkle dates with soda and pour boiling water over them just enough to cover them and set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add egg and beat thoroughly. Stir in flour and nuts. Add date mixture and stir to blend well.
  5. Turn into a buttered 8-inch square pan. Bake 45 minutes in a 350 degree oven until center comes out clean.
  6. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream if you want.
