  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Heavily butter a 9-inch pie plate, preferably glass, with the 2
  3. Tablespoons butter, and sprinkle the 2 tablespoons sugar over the
  4. Bottom. Place the halved pears flat-side down in the pie plate.
  5. Make the batter by beating together the egg, milk, flour and salt.
  6. Pour over the pears.
  7. Mix together the 1/4 cup sugar and the almonds; sprinkle over
  8. The pears.
  9. Bake for 15 minutes.
  10. Serve hot or warm.
