Ingredients:

  • 4 (1/4-lb) cubed steaks
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 4 (1/4-inch- thick) slices onion

Directions:

  1. Brush steaks with milk. Combine flour, salt, and pepper. Dredge steaks in flour mixture, coating well.
  2. Heat shortening in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Brown steaks on one side until golden brown. Turn steaks, and place a slice of onion on each piece. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 25 minutes. Cook, uncovered, an additional 5 minutes.
