Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450.
  2. Pour shortening in a cast iron skillet then place skillet in oven.
  3. Place cornmeal in a bowl and whisk in milk and egg.
  4. Add fennel and pepper then stir until thoroughly blended.
  5. Stir the hot shortening into the batter then pour the batter into the hot skillet.
  6. Bake 20 minutes then serve piping hot with butter.
