Ingredients:

  • for about 3 1/2 dozen
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • about 1/3 cup red jelly or jam

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.F
  2. In a medium bowl mix flour, sugar and baking powder.
  3. Blend in butter, egg and vanilla.
  4. Divide dough in four parts. Shape each in a roll, (like a fat snake) about 1-inch in diameter.
  5. Arrange, 4 inches apart, on ungreased baking sheets.
  6. With handle of wooden spoon make an indentation a little less than 1/2-inch deep down center of each roll.
  7. Fill indentation with jelly or jam.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Lift each section carefully onto cutting bord. Cut crosswise ino bars 1-inch wide.
  10. Cool on wire racks. Store in airtight container
