Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. .Whisk eggs and sugar with vanilla sugar until thick and creamy.
  2. Add the melted butter and the water to the egg mixture.
  3. Beat for another minute.
  4. Sift the flour and gently fold it into the mixture, adding the dates and the chopped walnuts. Add the cinnamon to the mixture.
  5. Spoon the mixture into a greased tin measuring 28cm x 18cm.
  6. Bake in a preheated 180C oven for 20 to 30 minutes.
  7. When ready, the slices will be golden brown on the surface and cooked through when tested with a skewer.
  8. Prepare the lemon icing.
  9. Sift the icing sugar into a bowl.
  10. Add the lemon juice and the softened butter.
  11. Mix these ingredients together until smooth in consistency.
  12. When the slices are cool, spread the lemon icing on top.
  13. Allow to cool.
  14. Cut into approximately 16 slices.
