Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 -7 cups flour
  • 1/4 oz yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 tbsp margarine
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Beat shortening, sugar and eggs. Add the dissolved yeast to this mixture. Add milk, spices and salt to this mixture and enough flour (between 6-7 cups) to make a soft dough. Place in a greased bowl and covered and let rise until double in size.
  2. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/2 inch thick and cut into doughnut shapes. Place on a greased sheet and cover - letting rise again until double.
  3. In the meantime mix up the glaze ingredients together.
  4. Fry in hot oil until brown.
  5. Place on a wire rack with a piece of parchment underneath and glaze.
