Elephant Ears With Yeast Conversion Table

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 tbsp shortening
  • 2 package. dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar,salt and shortening.
  2. Heat until shortening is melted.
  3. DO NOT BOIL!!
  4. Cool to lukewarm
  5. Add yeast & stir until dissolved.
  6. Stir in flour 2 cups at a time.
  7. Beat after each addition until smooth.
  8. Put in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth.
  9. Let rise until double, about 30 min.
  10. Dust hands with flour and pinch off pieces of dough about size of golf ball.
  11. Stretch each piece into a thin 6 to 8 circle.
  12. Fry one at a time in oil heated to 380 to 400 degrees until dough rises to surface.
  13. Turn & fry on other side until light brown.
  14. Drain on paper towel & sprinkle with sugar mixture.
  15. Makes about 20 elephant ears.
