Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup. crisco
  • 2 cup. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsps. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 cup. milk
  • 1/4 cup. marachino cherry juice
  • 1 cup. chopped nuts

Directions:

  1. Sirt together flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
  2. Add crisco, milk, cherry juice and vanilla.
  3. Beat 2 minutes.
  4. Add beaten egg whites.
  5. Beat 1 minute.
  6. Lastly add slightly floured chopped maraschino cherries and chopped nuts.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees.

  9. White Frosting:
  10. Boil together 2 cups white sugar and 2/3 cups boiling water until syrup spins a thread.
  11. Cool slightly.
  12. Pour into 2 beaten egg whites.
  13. Beat until thick.
  14. Flavor with vanilla and spread on cake.
