Armenian Nut Coil Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 cup flour
  • filling
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 tbsp milk or as needed

Directions:

  1. Mix milk, sugar and salt.
  2. Add yeast cake and stir well till dissolved
  3. Stir in egg and softened butter and flour
  4. Knead until soft and pliable and place in an oiled bowl
  5. Lise rise double in a warm place about 2 hours.
  6. Punch down and let rest 10 minutes.
  7. Roll into a rectangle.
  8. Spread with the butter and sprinkle on the nuts
  9. Fold dough into thirds ( 3 layers )
  10. With a sharp knife cut dough into stiprs about 1/2 inch
  11. Twist strips and wind into a coil
  12. Bake in a 425F oven about 10 minutes.
  13. While coils are warm, frost with an icing made freom the sugar and milk.
