Ingredients:

  • 1/4 lb butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped candied citron peel

Directions:

  1. Cream butter and sugar with hand mixer or stand mixer. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  2. Stir baking soda into applesauce. Add to butter-sugar-egg mixture.
  3. Toss dates, nuts and citron with flour until coated. Stir in wet mixture. Pour into greased loaf pan.
  4. Bake at 350F for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
