  1. Rinse and soak the beans overnight, then set to boil. Lower heat to a simmer and cook about 1 1/2 to 2 hours until soft.
  2. Heat the corn oil in a large saucepan or wok. Add the garlic, stirring constantly until it just starts to brown. Toss in the chili powder and then add the beans.
  3. Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the beans until they form a paste, adding water a tbsp at a time if they become to dry or thick. Note: If using a fork, be careful not to scratch your pan.
  4. Once well mashed, add the garlic powder, onion powder and salt. Mash again and add water, 1 tbsp at a time, until creamy.
  5. Serve warm.
