Orange Nut Bread

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Sift dry ingredients into a bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening.
  3. Add milk, orange juice and egg.
  4. Mix only enough to dampen ingredients.
  5. Add nuts.
  6. Pour into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan, spreading to corners and leaving a slight depression in center.
  7. Let stand for 20 minutes.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
  9. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  10. Then turn out on a rack to cool.
  11. Store overnight.
