Ingredients:

  • 2 package dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2/3 cup dry milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening or lard
  • 4 tbsp sugar or molasses or honey
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups (about) bread flour
  • 1 cup oatmeal

Directions:

  1. Proof yeast in 100 degree water with sugar, molasses or honey. Add other ingredients except flour and mix well. Add 2 cups bread flour and all of wheat, oatmeal and bran. Knead adding flour until dough is elastic. The amount of bread flour can be affected by humidity, it could be more or less. Dough is kneaded when it pulls away from the mixer bowl and you can stretch a golf ball size piece without it tearing. Place in greased mixing bowl and let rise until doubled. Remove and place on a floured cutting board and roll into a log. Divide log in half and then divide each half into eight equal pieces. Place on greased baking sheet and lightly cover and let rise until doubled. Bake in 400 degree oven until lightly brown on top and bottom.
