Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Sort and rinse beans.
  2. Place beans in a large Dutch oven.
  3. Add 2 quarts of cold water.
  4. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes.
  5. Remove from the heat; cover and let stand 1 hour.
  6. Drain and rinse beans.
  7. Return beans to the Dutch oven; add remaining water.
  8. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 40 minutes or until almost tender.
  9. Drain and reserve liquid.
  10. In a large bowl, mix together beans and remaining ingredients; pour into a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  11. Cover and bake at 300 degrees for 2 1/2 hours or until tender.
  12. Stir occasionally; add reserved bean liquid if necessary.
