Kentucky Yeast Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp shortening
  • 5 cups flour (approx )
  • 1 package yeast , dissolved in
  • 1/4 cup water (105-110 deg f)

Directions:

  1. Warm milk, sugar, salt, and shortening in microwave for 1-2 min.
  2. Let cool.
  3. Shortening need not be melted.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Put 2 cups flour inbowl.
  6. Add yeast,egg and liquid ingredients.
  7. Using electric mixer,beat well.
  8. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time until mixer can no longer turn.
  9. Then stir with wooden spoon.
  10. Let dough rest 15 minutes on floured board.
  11. Knead 15-20 times.
  12. Coat dough by rolling in butter-greased bowl.
  13. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  14. On floured board, knead 10times.
  15. Make balls.
  16. Place in greased pan.
  17. Let rise 1-2 hours or untildough doubles.
  18. Bake at 400 for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  19. Remove from oven, butter top of rolls.
  20. Serve hot.
