Fruit marinade (catsup)

Ingredients:

  • 10 lbs tomatoes
  • 10 pears
  • 6 large onions
  • 1 quart white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • sugar ( my mother used white )
  • 10 apples (optional)

Directions:

  1. Wash, peel,and dice the fruit and vegetables.
  2. Put vinegar, salt and sugar in large stainless steel or enamel pot.
  3. Heat to melt sugar.
  4. Remove from stove.
  5. Tie the spices in a cheesecloth bag.
  6. Add the fruit, vegetables and spices.
  7. Bring to a boil and simmer 1 1/2 hour stirring frequently.
  8. Pour into sterilized pint jars, and process for 10 minutes.
