Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Rinse and drain cherries.
  2. Discard stems and pit the cherries.
  3. In a medium saucepan, add water and brown sugar; bring to a simmer.
  4. Add red wine and lemon zest.
  5. Bring back to a simmer and cook for 3 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the pitted cherries; let mixture return to a simmer for 2 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat, cover with a lid, and let cool to room temperature.
  8. After mixture has cooled, refrigerate over night.
  9. Spoon cherries and liquid into individual serving bowls.
  10. Serve with your favorite wafers, cookies or ice cream.
