Ingredients:

  • 500 g yam- peeled and cut into cubes
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • green chilies- as many as you want
  • ginger -1 inch
  • turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • salt to taste
  • ( pepper ,cloves, cinnamon, cardamom makes a basic 1. add nutmeg/mace/star anise, etc. if you're in the mood/have the ingredients/ have the patience/ have the time)

Directions:

  1. Boil yam with turmeric and water till it's fully cooked (Use a pressure cooker, saves time). Drain water completely.
  2. Chuck the remaining ingredients (except the bread crumbs) in a food processor till it forms a mush.
  3. Now would be the time to check if you've got your seasoning right....
  4. Add enough bread crumbs to bind this mix.
  5. Roll out the mixture into small balls and flatten them with the help of your palms.
  6. Shallow fry in oil till both sides are golden brown.
  7. Serve with Mint & Yogurt dip. I just use ketchup.
