Ingredients:

  • 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup chopped candied citron peel
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest
  • confectioners' sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Sift flour with powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
  3. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, with electric mixer at high speed,.
  5. Beat eggs and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  6. Add citron and lemon peel, beat with wooden spoon until well blended.
  7. Add flour mixture.
  8. Beating with wooden spoon until smooth.
  9. Refrigerate several hours or overnight.
  10. Form dough into 1-inch balls.
  11. Place 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets.
  12. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until set but not brown.
  13. Remove and cool completely on rack.
  14. Before serving, sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
