Vinegar Pie Crust

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 8 tbsp ice water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shortening , plus
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • 1 pinch sugar (optional)

Directions:

  1. Beat egg and add vinegar, water, and salt.
  2. In separate bowl, cut shortening into flour with pastry blender.
  3. (Mel prefers to use his fingers).
  4. Combine flour mixture with liquid mixture, form into a ball of dough, and chill in fridge.
  5. Roll out two pie crusts (bottom and top crust) on floured board.
  6. Fill pie crust as desired (we used a canned apple pie filling).
  7. Mel likes to baste some milk on the top crust and sprinkle it with a bit of sugar.
  8. Cooking time will vary depending on your filling.
