Venetian Orange and Chocolate Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 lbs flour
  • 1 cup crisco
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 oranges , zest of
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

Directions:

  1. For cookies:.
  2. Cream crisco, gradually adding sugar. Stir in honey, milk and orange zest.
  3. In a separate bowl sift flour, salt and baking soda.
  4. Add wet and dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
  5. Roll into balls approximately 1 T sized each.
  6. Bake at 325 degrees approximately 20 minutes, or until cookies are golden brown.
  7. Glaze:.
  8. Boil sugar and water until syrupy. Add cocoa and continue cooking for 15 minutes.
  9. When cookies are cool roll cookies in glaze until lightly coated. Be very careful, as the glaze will be very hot.
  10. Set cookies out on a flat surface until glaze has set and cooled.
