South African Date and Onion Salad

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  • 1 medium onion, peeled , cut lengthwise into quarters and then crosswise into 1/8-inch slivers

Directions:

  1. Combine vinegar, salt and sugar in a serving bowl and stir until sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Add dates and onions, and stir to coat.
  3. Serve immediately, or cover tightly and refrigerate.
