Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Directions:

  1. Combine the first 3 ingredients; let rest until cool.
  2. Cream margarine and sugar, adding eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture. Fold in cooled dates.
  4. Pour in a 9 x 13 baking pan. Mix TOPPING ingredients and sprinkle over batter.
  5. Bake at 350 F for 35-40 minutes.
