Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 1/2 tsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Coat cookie sheet with butter.
  2. Measure out and set aside the pecans, baking soda, butter and salt. These will be added later, but set them aside as you will be busy stirring.
  3. Boil sugar, corn syrup and water until thread spins. To determine when you've reached 'thread spins', pull spoon out of pan and mixture should not drip, but create a thin thread that will spin as if it is wound up.
  4. Add pecans, stirring continously. Cook about 4 minutes, or until mixture turns a light brownish gold.
  5. Take from heat, add butter, salt and soda. Mix briskly. Pour onto cookie sheet and spread as thin as possible.
  6. Allow to cool about 15 minutes before attempting to break apart.
