Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup pumpkin
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp clove, ground
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Directions:

  1. Cream together sugar and shortening.
  2. Add pumpkin and egg and mix well.
  3. Sift together dry ingredients and add to the wet mixture, mix well.
  4. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Add raisins and nuts if desired.
  6. Drop by teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes or till light brown.
