Ingredients:

  • 4 -5 cups shredded bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1 -1 1/2 cup sugar (to taste)
  • 3 -4 cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 5 tbsp butter

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees Farenheit.
  2. Beat the eggs just until properly mixed.
  3. Place all of the ingredients except butter into a large bowl and mix well. Let rest for about 10 minutes.
  4. Pour into a well greased 10 or 11 rectangular glass baking dish.
  5. Dot the top with the softened butter.
  6. Bake until when a skewer inserted comes out clean and top is golden brown and crisp along the sides, About 1 hour to 1 hour and a half.
  7. It may look a bit jiggly like a custard, but dont worry! it will set once cool.
  8. I like it hot, but you can serve it cold also or at room temperature.
  9. Enjoy!
