Light Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine, melted
  • 8 -10 slices dry bread
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups milk , scald & cooled

Directions:

  1. Melt butter or margarine.
  2. Break up bread, set aside.
  3. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice.
  4. Reserve 3 tablespoons of this mixture for topping.
  5. Pour melted butter onto the bread crumbs and add the remaining sugar mixture.
  6. Place the bread mixture in a lightly greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish.
  7. Beat egg, salt, and vanilla in a bowl.
  8. Add milk slowly.
  9. Pour over bread mixture in dish.
  10. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  11. Sprinkle reserved sugar mix on top.
  12. Bake at 325F for 45 to 50 minutes.
