Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 (25 oz) package cake yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups water , lukewarm
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour , sifted
  • 1/2 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Combine scalded milk, 1 cup sugar, 1 Tbsp salt, and butter, stirring until dissolved.
  2. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. Crumble yeast in a separate bowl, add water, stirring until dissolved.
  4. Combine yeast and milk mixtures, add beaten egg yolks, stirring well.
  5. Add half the flour gradually, beat for about 10 min or until bubbly.
  6. Add remaining flour, knead until smooth, add flour if dough is sticky.
  7. Place in a greased bowl, turn dough over to grease, cover and let rise until doubled in bulk or for about 2 hours.
  8. Heat milk, nuts, remaining sugar and salt (to taste), until hot, then add egg whites and stir well.
  9. Let cool, then punch dough down, and cut off 3 inch round pieces.
  10. Roll each out onto a floured board to a 12 inch square.
  11. Dot with melted butter, and spread with a portion of the nut mixture.
  12. Roll up, and place on a greased baking sheet.
  13. Let rise until doubled in bulk, then bake at 350 degrees for 45 min to 1 hour.
