Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 6 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Scald milk (heat, but do not bring to a boil).
  2. Remove milk from burner, add sugar, salt, shortening.
  3. Stir to dissolve, cool to lukewarm.
  4. Add yeast and beaten eggs.
  5. Add flour and beat until smooth.
  6. Cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hr).
  7. Stir down and turnbatter into 2 loaf pans or 1 bundt pan, which has been greased.
  8. Let rise until doubled in bulk (about 1 hr).
  9. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
  10. Cool slightly, serve warm with butter.
  11. Separate with two forks instead of cutting with knife.
