Frances Virginia Tea Room Butterscotch Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of baking soda

Directions:

  1. Combine brown sugar and butter in top of a double boiler; place over boiling water and cook, stirring frequently, until butter melts. Add evaporated milk, salt, and soda; stir until well blended. Continue cooking over boiling water, stirring frequently, until sugar dissolves and sauce is thoroughly heated. Serve sauce warm over ice cream.
