Easy Cheddar Strata With Grilled Onions

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 300°.
  2. Spray a square baking dish, 8x8x2, with cooking spray.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook onions in oil for about 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until golden brown.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Trim the crusts from the bread.
  7. Spread mustard on one side of each slice of bread.
  8. Arrange 4 slices, mustard side up, in a baking dish.
  9. Layer 1 cup of cheese, the tomato and the onions on the bread.
  10. Place remaining bread, mustard side down, on the onions.
  11. Beat cream or milk and the eggs until well blended.
  12. Pour evenly over bread.
  13. Bake uncovered for about 1 hour or until center is set and bread is golden brown.
  14. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
  15. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.
