Deep Fried Twinkies

Ingredients:

  • popsicle sticks
  • for the batter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • powered sugar for dusting later

Directions:

  1. Push Popsicle sticks into Twinkie lengthwise, leaving about 2 inches to use as a handle
  2. Freeze the Twinkies overnight.
  3. Pour oil in your fryer and heat to 375 degrees F.
  4. Batter Directions
  5. 1. Mix together milk, vinegar and oil.
  6. 2. In another bowl, blend flour, baking powder and salt.
  7. 3. Whisk wet ingredients into dry and continue mixing until smooth.
  8. 4. Refrigerate while oil heats.
  9. 5. Dust with flour and dip into the batter.
  10. 6. Rotate Twinkie until batter covers entire cake.
  11. 7. Place carefully in hot oil. The Twinkie will float, so hold it under with a utensil to ensure even browning.
  12. 8. It should turn golden in 3 to 4 minutes.
  13. 9. Depending on the size of your deep fryer, you might be able to fry only one at a time, two at the most.
  14. 10 Place Twinkie on paper towel and sprinkle with powered sugar, and serve hot
