  1. In a large, heavy kettle, saute bacon until crisp; add green onions and tops, potatoes,green pepper,celery,carrot, and garlic.
  2. Pour in water and season with salt, pepper,worcestershire and tabasco. cover pan and simmer 15 minutes, or untill potatoes are tender. mash mixture slightly with potato masher. in a seperate pan, heat clams in there own juice for 3 minutes, or till tender. add clams to soup; add cheese. stir well
  3. Then heat just until piping hot don't boil
  4. Serves 4 as a main dish
