Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup water

Directions:

  1. Combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or knives.
  3. Add water.
  4. Knead about a dozen times on floured surface.
  5. Flatten in a circle to 1/2 thickness.
  6. Melt 2 tablespoons shortening in a frying pan.
  7. When shortening is hot, add dough and fry until browned.
  8. Slide bannock onto a clean towel or rag.
  9. Add another 2 tablespoons more shortening.
  10. Flip the bannock onto the pan and cook the other side.
