  1. Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add bananas, and mix until smooth.
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture, stirring just until moistened. Stir in chopped pecans.
  3. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9- x 5- x 3-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove cake to wire rack to complete cooling.
