Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp lemon peel
  • 4 tsp butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar , packed
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 4 medium cooking apples
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp clove
  • 2 tbsp butter

Directions:

  1. Prepare pastry, adding nutmeg and lemon peel.
  2. Roll dough about 1/8 inch thick, cut into 4 equal squares.
  3. Peel and core apples.
  4. Put 1 teaspoon each butter and sugar in apple.
  5. Set on square of pastry. Bring opposite ends of pastry over apple, sealing edges.
  6. Combine remaining ingredients, boil.
  7. Bake in buttered dish at 500 degrees for 10 minutes or 350 degrees for 45 minutes, basting often with syrup.
