Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plus 2 tbsp shortening
  • 2-3/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg yolk plus milk to measure 2/3 cup
  • filling
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • topping
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp water

Directions:

  1. Cut shortening into flour and salt.
  2. Stir egg yolk and milk into flour until mixture cleans bowl.
  3. Divide into 2 balls and roll on into rectangular and place in jelly roll pan.
  4. Sprinkle with crushed cereal.
  5. Mix apples, sugar and spices then spread over cereal.
  6. Roll remaining dough in rectangle and place over apples and seal edges.
  7. Beat egg white and spread over top crust.
  8. Bake at 350 for 60 minutes.
  9. Mix topping ingredients and spread over warm crust.
  10. Cool and cut into bars.
