Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Peel and slice onions into separate rings.
  2. Pour buttermilk into a large shallow pan.
  3. Add onion rings and soak 30 minutes.
  4. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, red pepper, water, egg, 1 T. oil, and lemon juice; stir until smooth.
  5. Heat oil to 375 degrees.
  6. Remove onion rings from buttermilk and dip into batter.
  7. Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
  8. Drain on absorbent paper.
  9. Sprinkle with salt, if desired
  10. The cook time is for each batch or load...
  11. DO NOT OVER FILL FRYER OR THEY WILL BE GREASY AND SOGGY.
