Wild Bird Treat Mix in a Quart Jar

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup small mixed bird seed
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups quick oats

Directions:

  1. Layer ingredients in order given, cornmeal first, in a 1 quart wide mouth jar pressing each layer very firmly before adding next layer.
  2. Decorate jar and attach a recipe card with the following instructions -
  3. WILDBIRD TREATS.
  4. Empty all ingredients from jar into a large bowl - mix.
  5. Add: 3/4 cup peanut butter, smooth or crunchy - and 1 cup water.
  6. Mix very well - add more water if necessary to make a stiff dough.
  7. Spread in a 9x13 baking pan -
  8. Use knife to cut bars into 2x4 bars. Leave bars in place.
  9. Bake at 250* for 45 minutes.
  10. Leave in pan to cool -
  11. Cut into bars along cut lines.
  12. Feed wild birds one bar at a time.
  13. Keep remaining bars refrigerated until needed.
