Sugar and Spice Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp clove
  • 3/4 tsp ginger
  • 1 3/4 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Mix together shortening, sugar, egg and molasses.
  2. Sift together soda, salt, spices and flour.
  3. Mix shortening mixture and flour mixture together.
  4. Chill 2 hours or more.
  5. Using 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough, make into balls.
  6. Place onto ungreased cookie sheet about 2- inches apart.
  7. Cookie will flatten and spread out.
  8. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes.
  9. Place on cookie rack to cool.
  10. When cool, roll into powdered sugar.
