  1. * You may want to add 1 tsp of salt and about double the tomato sauce, if you are not following a low sodium diet.
  2. Soften cabbage leaves in boiling water. Preheat oven to 350.
  3. Mix ground beef, rice, 1/2 of tomato sauce, pepper, garlic, and onion. Fill cabbage leaves with about 1/3 cup of mixture. Roll up, fold in sides.
  4. Put water in big pot (2 quart or larger). Place rolled up cabbage, seam sides down in pot. Layer with 1/2 tomato sauce and saurkraut.
  5. Heat to boiling. Boil 2 minutes. Reduce heat and simmer for 2-2 1/2 hrs. Top with grated romano cheese if desired.
