Shortnin' Bread, Tennessee Style.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Combine flour, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl, mixing well.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Dissolve soda in buttermilk, and set aside.
  4. Combine butter and molasses in a heavy saucepan, and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  5. Add flour mixture.
  6. Stir in buttermilk and egg.
  7. Pour into a greased and floured 10 inch iron skillet.
  8. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
  9. Cool 10 minutes in skillet, then invert onto plate, and cut into wedges.
