Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 1/2 cups cold water
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Cream together shortening, sugar, molasses and beaten egg. Add hot water alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Pour into an 8-inch square pan.
  2. Mix topping ingredients and pour over unbaked mixture.
  3. Bake at 375F for 35 minutes. Serve warm.
