Quick Casserole Garlic Bread

Ingredients:

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups nonfat milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease a 2-qt casserole dish and set aside.
  2. Melt 1 tbsp butter in a small pan.
  3. Add garlic and cook gently 3 minutes, do not let it brown. Set aside.
  4. Blend all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  5. Cut in 3 tbsp butter to resemble crumbs.
  6. Beat together egg, milk and the garlic butter, add to the dry mix and blend well.
  7. Knead on a floured board 10-20 minutes, until not sticky.
  8. Shape bread into a round and place in the casserole.
  9. Slash the top of the round 1-2 times.
  10. Melt the final tablespoon of butter and brush the loaf generously.
  11. Bake 1 hour, then cool in the pan 10 minutes before turning out onto a rack.
