Old Fashioned Sugar Plum Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cup chopped nuts (i used walnuts)
  • 1 stick margarine (or butter)
  • 1/2 tsp soda
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Grease and flour bundt or 9×13 cake pan.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. Combine all cake ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Beat with electric mixer until well combined.
  5. Pour into prepared cake pan and bake for one hour.- or tested done
  6. Just before cake is done, place all sauce ingredients into a saucepan.
  7. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and continue boiling gently until sauce is thickened, about two minutes.
  8. Remove done cake from oven and poke holes all over top with a fork.
  9. Pour hot sauce over hot cake.
  10. Allow to sit in pan until sauce is absorbed.
  11. Cool completely
  12. My note: this cakes tastes even with a sauce and I have also made with a lemon sauce on the side!
