Lebanese Savory Dough

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 package. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 5 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Place water and sugar in a mixing bowl with a dough hook. Add yeast and allow to rest for 5 minutes. Add oil, salt and egg. Mix gently with the mixer.
  2. Add approximately 3-1/2 cup of the flour and mix. Gradually add more flour and mix until the flour leaves the edges of the bowl and the dough is smooth. Dough should be a little sticky.
  3. Butter a bowl for the dough, cover with plastic and a tea towel.
  4. Let rise for 30-40 minutes or until double. Punch dough down, use for Lebanese Meat pies.
