Ingredients:

  • 1/4 oz dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 5 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Pour boiling water over oats; let rest 2 hours.
  2. Sprinkle yeast over lukewarm water; stir until dissolved.
  3. Add to oats with molasses, salt and butter.
  4. Stir in flour, beating with wooden spoon until well mixed.
  5. Shape into ball.
  6. Place in a buttered bowl, cover with tea towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  7. Punch down, then beat again until smooth.
  8. Divide batter into 2 buttered loaf pans.
  9. Let rise until doubled, about 40 minutes.
  10. Bake in 375 oven for 40-45 minutes, or til loaves are golden and pull away from sides of pan.
