Directions:

  1. Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, and sugar; set aside.
  2. Cream butter in a large mixing bowl; add eggs and buttermilk, beating well. Add flour mixture and jam; beat at medium speed of electric mixer for 3 minutes.
  3. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 8-inch round cake pans. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove layers from pans, and cool completely on wire racks.
  4. Spread frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake.
